The Committee for Industries and Services of the Chamber of Deputies together with the Embassy of Germany in Romania and the Association Energy Policy Group (EPG) are organising a round table discussion on the biogas and biomethane potential in Romania.
Romania is aiming to achieve climate neutrality by 2050, with its government committing to an annual increase of 10 MW in new biomass CHP, 5 MW in new biogas CHP, and 5 MW in new biogas PP. Despite the promising potential for biogas and biomethane in the country, the Renewable Energy Directive (RED III) has posed challenges to its development. This has impacted the creation of a cohesive strategy to promote these renewable energy sources.
The event will explore the barriers preventing the widespread adoption of biogas and biomethane in Romania. Key issues include securing a stable feedstock supply, navigating complex permitting processes, insufficient financial incentives, and the need for a long-term government strategy. The roundtable brings together experts and decision-makers to propose practical solutions and discuss possible legislative initiatives that could help address these challenges.
