Climate Governance 2023
Project Description
National climate laws are an important indicator of Member States’ commitment to achieving climate neutrality. They can significantly increase the robustness of national climate frameworks, address “ownership gaps” and introduce governance mechanisms which guarantee that climate change will remain high on the political agenda. Romania does not yet have a national climate law, and its climate governance framework is relatively ad-hoc and fragmented.
The aim of this project is to enhance climate governance and action for effective progress to reach net-zero by 2050 at the latest, ensuring more national ownership whilst bridging with the EU Green Deal. The project focuses on building momentum for a climate law in Romania, the revision of the National Energy and Climate Plans (NECPs) and national Long-Term Strategy (nLTS), in addition to assessing the scope and design of an independent advisory body on climate.
