As part of the ConsenCUS project, EPG is analyzing the narratives and perceptions surrounding carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) in Romania, where a novel carbon capture and conversion technology will be demonstrated in the near future.
CCUS technologies could make a significant contribution to industrial decarbonization in Romania, but knowledge and understanding of these complex projects is low.
In this short op-ed, we summarize our analysis of strategic narratives on CCUS in Romania in the 2020-2021 period, highlighting that original and informed opinions on CCUS are missing from the Romanian media, and a coherent stance from national authorities on the subject is almost entirely absent.
This may further delay the implementation of CCUS projects and their contribution to climate mitigation.
This op-ed was written as part of the ConsenCUS project, funded through the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and Innovation programme under grant agreement N° 101022484.
